jun kamoda is a producer, dj and mc from tokyo. new to the label but a friend of the party, jun came to mister sunday in nyc last year and ended up hanging around for a few days afterward, digging for records and sharing bowls of spaghetti with the boys. when he returned to japan, he got to working on the music we now present to you on the clay ep. this is jun blending loopy, psychedelic disco stylings with chugging drum work for three party-ready cuts. theyve been chopping up our dance floors months we’re excited to hear them do the same to yours.

fabrizio martina, the man behind jolly mare, is a champion turntablist, with a master degree in mechanical engineering and a phd in vibration dynamics under his belt. he s currently a full time producer and dj, taking part in festivals across europe from sonar to harvey s discotheque stage at bestival. a graduate of red bull music academy in new york, he has opened acts from masters at work to roy ayers, worked with the likes of soul clap and thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of pitchfork, mixmag and okayplayer with his dream-like brand of cosmic disco and house.

questo sporco mondo meraviglioso is one of the numerous collaborations between the director luigi scattini and piero umiliani, and one of the most interesting and varied soundtracks within the composers repertoire. a work full of influences and musical quotes, with guests and valuable collaborators such as edda dell’orso and i cantori moderni di alessandro alessandroni. some of the songs presented in this album are among his best works.

floating astronomical objects and the void in between – jon hester enters the dystopian circle with four gravity manipulating techno tracks coming directly through the wormhole. jon hester got his start in the midwest us, living in chicago, minneapolis, and connecting with detroit. after years on the dance floor he took to the decks, going on to work in a record shop, host his own events, and hold residencies that developed his sound. music production and a move to berlin followed, but dancing and mixing are still the inspirations that drive him to create. his dj sets are built on physical rhythms and adventurous programming, effortlessly combining diverse varieties of techno and house. with an engaging presence and a knack for telling a story, he builds a unique connection with each audience, and works any room until it sweats.

after showcasing the debut releases from the high on wye quintet (magic mountain high, soulphiction and steevio) and monoak, the freerotation label returns with a various artists 12” featuring four more artists intrinsically linked by the annual festival. anthony child, aka surgeon, has been a regular fixture since first appearing at freerotation in 2011. his recent exploration of modular synthesis and use of the buchla music easel has found a home in the ambient yurt at the festival, and equally has manifested in album projects such as 2015’s electronic recordings from maui jungle vol 1. “unconscious fearless determination” follows on from this more experimental, less dancefloor-focused side to child’s work, while still pulsing with the techno fundamentals that quickly defined him back in the mid ‘90s. duckett hails from north wales, and has been a key part of the freerotation fabric since the beginning of the event. after some releases on mindtours, mindyourhead and sthlmaudio back in the mid-‘00s, his music has started to reach a new audience through releases on untilmyheartstops and a clutch of lauded live performances. “breaks my heart when i remember that day” captures the alien synthesis and emotional heft that singles duckett out as such a remarkable artist. steevio is the co-founder of freerotation and mindtours records, responsible for a huge swathe of techno releases reaching back to the ‘90s. as well as his releases on mindtours, he has recently appeared on untilmyheartstops and in collaboration with pev on schmorgabsord, and is set to appear on russ gabriel’s new label rivers of groove. with its expressive swells of off-kilter melody and snaking drum lines, “pendulum” continues the thread of exploration steevio has been following on his journey into experimental modular techno. tom ellis has been prolifically issuing forth material in a soul-enriched space in between house, techno and funk for more than ten years. from running the acclaimed trimsound label to releasing albums and singles on telegraph, archipel, hartchef discos and more recently ethereal sound to name but a few, tom’s recorded work and immersive live performances continue to reach out to new moods and timbres. “as a take” finds tom at his most reflective, layering on dubby effects and organic instrumentation in a truly meditative end to the ep.

saft welcomes nortasun to it s expanding roster of artists. with not too much info being available about the artist, the music should do the talking. nortasun comes up with a sample drenched ep that consists out of swell basslines, mind expanding chords and outlandish percussion works. untitled 1 opens up with a carefully placed disco sample that hovers over the rhythms very nicely. the percussion section and the ascending chords serve the overal ambiance while nortasun plays with the extended loop pattern that maintains of interest. untitled 2 serves as a very deep but functional voyage into tribal territory. a vary of percussion sets in and smartly exchanges tones with fx cuts. on the b side fudge fingas debuts on saft with an atmospheric beast of a remix for untitled 1 that constantly grows and cleverly uses vocal cuts that change up the original atmosphere and makes the overall a very broad work of house music. the stevie wonder like clava hit + piano solo s that come in when the remix progresses are all in courtesy of the edinburghian producer himself.

yalta is a resort city on the southern coast of the crimean peninsula surrounded by the black sea. this place has heavily influenced a talented artist pavel milyakov also known as buttechno. this album is his dedication to yalta, but it’s not just about geographical location, it’s about a special and sacred state of mind and soul that the producer calls -yalta-. this very personal work of a mature author reflects his deep and multifaceted approach to the research of the sound language.

following on from last years exceptional ‘obsession ep’ from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, ‘the aten’. ‘the phantom ep’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, ‘after the light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

our latest looking for mushrooms ep comes to us from a collaboration between long time dirt crew resident tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer grambow. we first heard from grambow when his fluid key stylings featured on tigerskins faint in 2015. the title track is a suspenseful and moody journey, lead by live double bass from feature artist das eb. building in intensity with tigerskins warm production and steady percussive instrumentation until grambows live lead on a gritty synth growls in over the top. a true modern electronic classic as far as we are concernred. tsukiji is a playful deep house groover. balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano which cruises along throughout the whole tropically touched endeavour. this track has party written all over it! octocat is a tougher italo disco tainted work out, tightly programmed live and analogue percussive elements push along, while wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. you can really taste and feel the long studio sessions the guys had to compose this great track. it is so much more than generic dance music. red fox is a divine culmination of the pairs compositional prowess and dance music knowhow. a cinematic and spirited house track that glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds. we are very honoured to release this outstanding musical release by tigerskin and grambow.

physical therapy makes his debut on spencer parker s work them records with a medley of club focused techno cuts. growing up in new jersey, physical therapy later moved to chicago, then new york, before finally settling in berlin where he s quickly built a profile as a stand out dj/producer. baktadust comes in the form of two tracks: the fast tempo main mix that combines peppy piano riffs and metallic effects, as well as a slower fried mix featuring cleaner chords and a sultry bassline. push me then demonstrates robust percussion, a rumbling low-end and eerie tremolo atmospherics before shadowy echoes and off kilter kicks conclude the release in spasm.

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

repress 2018... following on from isaac tichauer s street lessons release, the mysterious loft records calls in the talents of bicep, hackman, dorsia and lancelot for a choicest remix package. the french express signing turned many heads when he dropped his lauded devotion lp back in 2012, and since then the australian producer has risen to become a formidable name within modern day electronic music. therefore it s only fitting that an all-star cast were chosen to remix his latest release on loft records. bicep, who had an enormous 2015 with releases on aus and 50 weapons, begin the release with the only remix of higher level - a break infused cut fashioned for the dancefloor with a penetrating melody, echoing vocals and soaring pads. the first of three street lessons remixes then comes from hackman, known for his work on 20/20 vision and futureboogie, who incorporates serene synths and subtle stabs to transform the original into a quirky renovation with elements of funk. london duo dorsia then step up with a cacophony of sounds that build in suspense with the introduction of fuzzy atmospherics, until fellow australian and w&o street tracks artist lancelot generates a cavernous dub containing the originals infectious hook whilst implementing resounding rimshots and wobbly keys.

for the second bad barbie records vinyl release of 2016 we are more than exited to bring you the magnificent work from the bla bla music owner daniel sanchez with his impromptu ep. here we have four amazing pieces where each one tells a different history. the first one pearled into droplets saw the light after a great live jam and the result is combination of several layers of base elements with subtle minimalistic articulations. these, in combination of the bass and synths lines do create a truly amazing micro house piece. the second one vague, is an atmospheric dub were a single synth chord raises in slowly, followed by a very subtle kick and bass line to set a bit of rhythm to the whole thing, creating a superb dreamy vibe while the chords do their thing with delicate reverbs and delays in the backend. a great musical piece indeed. for the third track we have yi, again another amazing micro house jewel born from a live jam, but this one is even more energetic than the first one and it also includes, besides a rocking bass line, analog synth chords that lifts up the mood during specific moments, which also do their part articulating themselves perfectly with some occasional twisted vocals that helps create an amazing party vibe from beginning to end. and if this wasn t enough we also have bedroom stories vocal tool that daniel included with his delivery, which can help spice up a dj set with ease.

the delivered sampling of featured artists on louie vega starring, is one for the record books and a must for any music aficionado as louie explains, this body of work is a masterpiece that will be party of my legacy. i see it up there on the same high shelf with albums like nuyorican soul, elements of life, and masters at work.

broken body is the follow-up to 2015s do it again single. this two-stepping banger is dripping with 90s retrofuturist sensualism, a heady and visceral latin jazz-tinged house track with a back beat guaranteed to get the dancefloor jumping. alister s trademark synth flourishes mingle with the vocals of returning collaborator rahan boxley, creeping into the mix with that repeating hook of jump on in, slim. when the beats are this infectious and the melodies are this strong, it s hard not to obey. on the flip side, you ll find the deep vibes of -ago-, an analog electronic freight train with a touch of acid mysticism, as well as -endgame-, an ethereal creeper replete with rolling arpeggios and drum machines. alister johnson is a staple of the toronto dj community and has commanded decks as far afield as the us, the eu, and south africa. his diverse production c.v. includes work for dinamo azari as well as the polaris-nominated zaki ibrahim. keep your ears on alister johnson, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

for their tenth release, voodoo down has again chosen to debut a new act to add to their label roster. andy harper and nic ford have been making music together for over a decade but began releasing in earnest under the name maddermodes in 2014 on their own label, shift coordinate points. they have since put out records on the labels millions of moments and night drive music. their handful of releases have already drawn support from top names like move d and nick höppner, and its clear that the duos sound is only getting more refined with each successive record. the ep entitled emprical evidence is a wholly cinematic piece of work, spread across four tracks that unravel slowly, unified by a theme of pumping syncopated rhythms under sprawling pad and string progressions. its easy to get lost in the thick arrangements, and the inventive use of samples and melodic elements invite repeat listening. equally suitable for early morning hours, ultra-deep techno sets, or quiet home listening sessions.

oshana returns to us with the multiverse ep, it s an undeniable thrill to see how our girl from nyc has evolved over time. the tough, sure-footed approach on both tracks here suggests a more techno-flavoured influence coming to bear on oshana s studio work, and she makes the style all her own. from the warm, pad-enriched swell of rashomon theory to the bass-driven sass of voyager , this is oshana at her most confident and dynamic, and we re thrilled to be sharing it

monoton ‘monotonprodukt 02’, also known as mp02, is the debut album of austrian electronic maverick konrad becker. out in 1980 it was a precursor of the minimal techno dub sound that was starting to be popular more than 15 years after. the album has been reissued by desire a couple of years ago and a new pressing is in the work. anyway it’s time to launch a remix ep with new (and not so new) producers giving crédit to the work of the austrian master. on the a side we find 3 new artists paying their dues : sergie rezza, whose debut album out on desire was critically acclaimed, abdulla rashim (abdulla rashim records / northern electronics / semantica) and also opal tapes’ boss stephen bishop own basic house. the b-side is a great megamix of the album tracks by the one and only ambient/electronica veteran scanner !

originally released in a limited edition of 500 copies in 1982 monoton’s second album ‘monotonprodukt 07’ is now a collector item and also one of the most important album of all-time. it has been voted one of the 100 best records by highly influential uk magazine the wire. monoton was founded in 1979 by hypermedia wizard konrad becker as an art project that underwent various transformations and collaborations in its exploration of psycho-active sound. a pioneer in experimental electronic music, becker continued to break new ground in electronic media. monotonprodukt 07 has been reissued on vinyl by desire (and is still available as a double picture-discs limited to 500 copies. it’s the first time ever that tracks from the album are remixed and desire is proud to had such great artists/producers as us prositutes, svengalighost with fellow partner and l.i.e.s. boss and hospital productions artist ron morelli. the last remix is the work of great mancunian duo rainer veil (modern love). an incredible remix package that do justice to this classic album ! mastered by matt colton at alchemy.

bodytrax drops it s second ep of 2016 with another essential 3-tracker from bodyjack. laugh it up opens things up and we are in vintage bodyjack territory from the outset. rough (and we mean rough!) beats and percussion, vocal hook and a metallic riff combined with possibly his ugliest bass line to date to make this an essential addition the bag/crate of any house dj. slow clap strips things right down to just drums and bass taking the track into even more raw areas. warehouse vibes! the title track i m here all week on the flip is one of those simple but infectious house tracks that you re going to remember after a night out. once again, our man s synth n bass work duck around those sharply programmed beats he s know for to round off the ep with a bang.

strut present an inspired new afro-electronic project for 2016, kondi band, a collaboration between sierra leonean kondi (thumb piano) player sorie kondi and us producer / dj chief boima, who himself has sierra leonean roots. the project was spawned after boima happened upon an online video of one of sories original tracks. sorie kondi is a blind musician with a will to thrive like no person i have met before, explains boima. my work with him began with a youtube link. i spotted the video for his track without money no family and was struck by his beautiful vocals and socially-conscious lyrics. these incredible melodies he was playing on his namesake thumb piano (the kondi) sealed the deal: i immediately decided to remix it.

new york coterie sheik ‘n’ beik line up the next 12” in a string of successful releases including legowelt & xosar under their now defunct xamiga guise, jeffrey scott and label owner rechulski. enlisted for their 7th record is the japan based mister saturday night and 1080p affiliate keita sano. with a strong affinity to analogue sound and old school audio processing, sano renders personal mind-maps in his work - eclectic and off-kilter productions shot-through with warmth and propelled by potent drums. his latest offering for sheik ‘n’ beik is one fans old and new will relish: a series of 4 warped excursions showcasing sano’s refined and idiosyncratic studio techniques. ‘bypass motion’ kicks things off with a fizzing 909 and a loose-limbed bass pattern set churning under brisk, steely atmospheres. dense in the low-end, ‘child’s play’ then follows up with a hard-nosed groove carried by horror-movie sweeps and distant computerised vocals.
